Game Habitat and DevHub move to Minc

Malmö's startup and game communities are moving closer together. As a first step toward closer collaboration, Game Habitat and the coworking space DevHub are temporarily moving into Minc - a co-location that provides new opportunities for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and shared growth.

Game Habitat is the community organization for South Sweden’s game developers, while Minc is home to the region’s startups in a variety of industries - from deeptech and medtech to greentech. Together, the organizations aim to build stronger bridges between the two clusters in order to create more high-growth companies. The move also allows Game Habitat to free up time for other activities, as it will no longer run a coworking space. However, the dedicated space for game developers, DevHub, will remain, it will simply be operated by Minc while Game Habitat fills it with content.

“This is a natural and important step for us”

– The game development industry is important to Malmö, and Minc develops what’s important to Malmö. As two of the largest actors in Malmö’s innovation system, this is a natural and important step for us to take together to achieve our future goals. The drive, creativity, passion, and desire to build something that makes a difference for the future are the same in the games industry as in other industries we operate in. By sharing our everyday working lives, we can find more ways to build the Malmö of the future, says Tomas de Souza, CEO of Minc.

The co-location is a natural continuation of the successful collaboration on the Haven support program, which, over the past two years, has helped early-stage game entrepreneurs build sustainable companies. The experiences from Haven show how the combination of business support, creativity, and community can deliver strong results - something that will now be further developed through the proximity between the two organizations.

“A way to take that mix to the next level”

– We see this as an opportunity to grow together. Game developers have a lot to learn from the startup world, and vice versa. Malmö already has a unique mix of creativity and entrepreneurship, and this collaboration is a way to take that mix to the next level, says Peter Lübeck, CEO of Game Habitat.

Game Habitat and DevHub moves into Minc at Anckargripsgatan 3 in Malmö on April 1, as we leave our current premises at Torggatan 2 a few blocks further south. The game developers currently housed at Game Habitat's coworking space, DevHub, will be offered space in an area at Minc that is being prepared for game developers. Game developers who are not currently housed at DevHub will also have the opportunity to take space at DevHub at Minc.

The co-location at Minc is temporary. Plans for a long-term sustainable solution for DevHub and the region’s game development community are already underway. We aim to share news about this next phase soon.
