Game Habitat’s DevHub, the shared office building for game developers in Malmö, is moving. The move paves the way for a new, exciting future better suited to the regional games industry and Game Habitat’s objectives.
When Game Habitat was founded in 2013, one of its original goals was to establish a physical hub and meeting place for the games industry in south Sweden. However, it wasn't until 2018 that DevHub opened its doors at Torggatan 2 in Malmö. Since then, DevHub has housed over 100 game companies and 500 game developers, making it one of the largest office buildings dedicated to game development in the world.
– DevHub has played a key role in developing the regional games community, serving as a symbol for Malmö as a world-class game hub. DevHub has also been an essential soft landing spot for companies like Avalanche Studios Group and IO Interactive as they established themselves in the region. And thanks to DevHub, we’ve been able to host visitors from all corners of the globe who want to understand why this region is so successful in game development, says Peter Lübeck, CEO at Game Habitat.
However, with the games industry changing, both globally and regionally, Game Habitat’s increased focus on supporting smaller companies and startups rather than big established companies, and the significant resources required to operate a large office building, it has become clear that DevHub needed to change.
– DevHub has been great, but now it must adapt to new circumstances while also allowing Game Habitat to make room for the future. There’s a lot in the pipeline, and we look forward to unveiling new plans in the coming months, including a new physical meeting space for regional game developers, says Peter Lübeck, CEO at Game Habitat.
Game Habitat and all current residents of Game Habitat’s DevHub at Torggatan 2 in Malmö will move out by March 31, 2026. Many current DevHub residents and other regional game developers are expected to reunite as DevHub takes shape in a new location. More information on this will be provided soon.
While the house, DevHub, is changing, the organization, Game Habitat, continues to function as usual. Game Habitat’s work and vision remain the same: to realize the vision of south Sweden as the world’s most successful, creative, and diverse ecosystem for global game development.
